Open Gear-Run In Lubricant

Open Gear-Run In is a highly specialized finishing or dressing compound for low speed Type 2 open gears, bushings, and other sliding surfaces in which optimized surface mating is necessary. Open Gear-Run In contains Extreme Pressure additives and lubricating solids to temporarily relieve stress points, improve machine surface contact patterns and improve the load profile. Once the desired operating conditions are achieved, the use of a normal service lubricant, such as Open Gear-Run In, can be resumed.

Applications
  • Mill pinion and girth gears exhibiting uneven contact patterns or minor pitting
  • Kiln and dryer pinion and girth gears exhibiting uneven contact patterns or minor pitting
  • Low speed, heavily loaded plain bearings where high temperatures result from tight fits

Features and Benefits
  • Special graphite and chemical polishes
Gently polishes contacting surfaces, relieving stress points and improving contact profile.
  • Anti-Wear and Extreme Pressure Properties
Controls the rate of resurfacing mating machine parts.
  • User friendly
Can be used through normal automatic lubrication systems, and is fully compatible with all Bel-Ray Open Gear Lubricants for user convenience.

General Description
Open Gear-Run In is a mineral oil based NLGI #00 aluminum complex grease. It utilizes special graphite and other non-corrosive finishing agents to promote improved contact surface mating in low speed, heavily loaded gears and bushings.

Indications for Use: uneven pitch line wear, slight pitting, uneven temperature across the tooth flank, elevated bushing temperature.
Instructions for Use: use Open Gear-Run In through a standard automatic lubricating system. For gears, use the product at a rate of 13-14 grams per hour per centimeter of tooth width for up to 500 hours or until temperature variation across the tooth flanks is 3C (6F) or less. For bushings, pump a constant flow of 2-3 times the normal amount of lubricant through the bushing until its operating temperature is within acceptable limits. In all cases (gears and bushings), resume the use of the normal service lubricant once the target temperatures have been reached.
